History of Halloween
The history of Halloween day like any other festival is stimulated through customs that have emerged through ages from generations to generations. We follow them like our dads and grandpas do. As this is a never-ending process, much of their novelty gets distorted with newer embellishments and alterations. Digging deep into Halloween history helps to figure out the facts from the fantasies which were undiscovered. Yet, doubts still prowl deep in our spirits, especially when the reality is far different from what we have seated hard into our beliefs. It will help out those who are interested in erasing off the superficial tinge to reach the foundation and recognize things as they truly are. |

Origin of Halloween
Halloween is celebrated on 31st October i.e. on eve of All Saints Day. The word "Hallow" meant "sanctify" and Halloween is celebrated in honor of all Saints in heaven, known or unknown. The Catholic church honor saints on this chosen day. In Gaelic culture the festival of "Samhain" is a celebrated in the end of the harvest season. Samhain was a time when the ancient pagans to take stash of supplies and plan for winter. According to the ancient Gaels on October 31, the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead extend beyond and the departed would come back to life and cause destruction such as illness or damaged crops. The festival therefore involves bonfires. It is supposed that the fires attract insects to the area which in turn attract bats to the area.
These are additional characteristic of the history of Halloween. People wear masks and Scary costumes in order to imitate the evil spirits and try to pacify them. Halloween costumes, trick-or-treating, masks etc are integral part of Halloween history. People find this holiday as an opportunity to celebrate with their family and friends. |
